Lessons
Lessons with a Sound Music Instruction teacher take place in the student's own home*
Lessons are usually half-an-hour long, and once a week. Longer or more frequent lessons may be appropriate for some students, and can be arranged.
Our schedule follows the official Seattle Public Schools calendar. Lessons take place every week that school is in session, and vacations are taken in concert with standard school vacations. Summer lessons take place in July and August.
We believe that performing for others is an integral part of making music. In addition to one-on-one lessons, all our students are encouraged to participate in two piano recitals per year. Every December and June, SMI hosts a piano recital with performances by SMI students of all ages and levels, in a space with a grand piano. Recitals are a good opportunity for students to share their music and hear what others have been working on.
