Our mission is to engage, challenge, and inspire every student's unique interests and abilities. We believe that an informed and well-rounded introduction to the piano is the best way to ensure creative growth and success.
At Sound Music Instruction, each student's interests and experience are used to develop a unique program of study. This can include a wide range of material such as lesson books and traditional technique and theory, as well as improvisation, composition, listening exercises, and an introduction to music from around the world.
We work to stimulate and maintain interest in music and the piano, while developing the skills that will help students excel in all areas of music-making.
Sound Music Instruction was founded by pianist and teacher Gust Burns. Gust has taught piano lessons for many years and has found inspiration in his students and in the teacher - student relationship. Gust founded Sound Music Instruction to engage more students and teacher/ musicians in music education that is rooted in the idea of mutual learning, and the development of musical skills and creativity.
While working with SMI, he continues to teach while performing often in Seattle and around the country.
